IO Games Tips: How to Grow, Survive and Win

.io games drop you into an arena full of rivals, and only one can come out on top. Some are about growing bigger, some about painting territory, others about steering a snake or staying alive the longest. Here are simple tips that work in all of them, then tricks for each kind of game.
How .io games work
You control one character with a single move: slide your finger or use the arrow keys, and it follows. The arena is full of things to collect and rivals trying to do the same. Bigger, longer or stronger usually wins.
Rounds are short. Some end with a timer, and the biggest player or the one with the most points wins. Others go on until only one player is left. Check the goal at the start of each round, because it changes how you should play. In our .io games, the rivals are computer players with funny names, and they get smarter level after level.
Grow early, grow safely
The first seconds matter most. Eat the small things around you right away: candies, berries, dots or little blocks. Each bite makes you a bit bigger, and soon you can take on bigger things.
Stay where the food is and where the big rivals are not. In many .io games, small items come back after a while, so a quiet corner can keep feeding you. Don't chase one rival across the whole map while easy food is all around you.
Know who can eat you
The golden rule: anything bigger than you is danger, and anything clearly smaller is food. Compare sizes before you chase. If it is close, don't risk it.
Look around, not just ahead, because a bigger rival can come from the side while you chase your prey. Some games help you: in Mouse to Dragon, a green ring under an animal means you can eat it and a red ring means run. While you are small there, hide in a bush burrow: big animals cannot fit inside.
Getting caught usually costs a lot. In Munch Town, being swallowed costs you half your points, so running away is often the smartest move.
Territory games: small loops win
In territory games, you leave a trail behind you when you step out of your zone. Close a loop back home and everything inside becomes yours. Your trail is your weak spot: if a rival touches it while you are outside, you are out.
So draw small loops close to home and come back fast. Grow from the edge of your zone a little at a time instead of trying one giant loop. And watch for rivals who wander far from home: cutting their trail knocks them out for a while.
Snake games: think with your head
In snake games, your head is what counts. If your head hits another snake's body, you pay for it. If a rival's head hits your body, it is the one in trouble. The trick is to cross in front of a rival so that it bumps into you.
Speed boosts help you cut in front, but they can cost length: in Zigzag Caterpillar, the lightning bolt speeds you up but makes you shorter. Use it for one quick move, not all the time. Keep space in front of your head and never steer into a corner or a crowd.
Survive the arena
In last-one-standing games, staying alive beats fighting. Pick up shields and healing items when you see them, and back away when your health is low. Use cover such as bushes, walls or igloos to hide or block shots.
Watch the edges. Many arenas shrink over time, with a storm or a zone that hurts you outside it, so move toward the safe area early. If your character slides, slow down well before the edge. And keep playing until the very end: one last bite can change the winner.
Our .io games
Munch Town is the gentle start: gobble candy until you can swallow whole houses. Penguin Painters is all about territory loops, Zigzag Caterpillar is our snake game, and in Mouse to Dragon you evolve one animal at a time, from a little mouse to a dragon.
