Drop and Merge Games: Tips to Reach the Biggest Object

Sea Jar Merge game screen: a big glass jar full of smiling shrimps, clownfish, crabs and octopuses, with the sea behind.

In drop and merge games, you let objects fall into a jar, and two matching ones join into a bigger one. It looks simple, but a messy pile fills the jar fast. These tips will show you how to aim, build a tidy pile, keep away from the danger line and deal with rocks, so you can reach even the biggest object.

How it works

Slide your finger to move the object above the jar, then let go and it falls. Two objects that are the same and touch each other merge into the next, bigger object. In Sea Jar Merge there are 11 steps, from the smallest to the biggest.

Each level gives you a goal, for example to make one particular animal. Reach it and you move on to the next level. You lose if an object stays above the red line at the top of the jar for more than 2 seconds.

Use the dotted line and the next bubble

While you slide, dotted lines show where your object will land. Use them every single time instead of dropping and hoping for the best.

Also look at the bubble that shows the next object. If it is the same as the one in your hand, you can plan a pair. If it is different, think about where it should go before you drop the first one.

Keep your pile tidy

Keep the small objects together on one side and let the bigger ones sit on the other, like a staircase. Objects are round and they roll, so a messy pile slides around and your matches move apart. A tidy pile gives you more merges.

Aim next to an object of the same kind, so that yours rolls and touches it. Small merges made often are better than waiting for a big one. Each merge makes the pile lower, and a lower pile is a safer pile. When two pairs are possible, do the lower one first: it keeps the pile flat and often sets off a second merge right after.

Stay away from the red line

The red line marks the top of the jar, and it blinks when something is above it. If you see it blink, you have only 2 seconds, so do not panic: look for a merge that lowers the pile.

Do not drop in the same spot every time, because the pile grows tall right there. Use the whole width of the jar and fill it evenly, so there is always room at the top for your next object.

Rocks and smaller jars

From level 6, rocks can appear. A rock never merges with anything. But when a merge touches a rock, the rock bursts. So place a pair right next to a rock to clear it. Do not leave rocks at the bottom for long, because they take space you need.

As you go, the jar gets smaller, so there is less room for mistakes. Before you drop, think one step ahead: what will this object touch, and where will it roll? A drop that looks perfect can still roll away, so leave a little space around your biggest object. Slow down in the late levels and take the time you need to aim with the dotted line.

Stars and the second chance

At the end of a level you earn 1 to 3 stars, depending on how many drops you used. Fewer drops means more stars. If you want three stars, replay a level you know and avoid wasted drops.

When you lose, a second chance costs 20 coins. It empties the top of the jar so you can keep playing, once per try. A level won with the second chance gives 1 star.

Try our drop and merge game

Sea Jar Merge fills a glass jar with baby sea animals, from a tiny droplet up to a turtle. Each level asks for a certain animal, the jar gets smaller as you go, and rocks start to get in the way.
