Jumping Games Tips: How to Climb Higher Without Falling

A round yellow chick bounces on a white cloud above a farm, a golden star above him.

In a jumping game, your hero bounces all by itself and you only decide where it goes. That sounds easy until the platforms get smaller, the gaps get wider and enemies appear. These tips will teach you how to steer with one finger, read each platform, use springs, stay calm when things move or break, and climb all the way to the flag at the top.

How it works

You do not press a jump button. The hero bounces every time it lands, and you slide your finger left or right to send it that way. On a computer, use the left and right arrow keys. In our games, the hero goes toward your finger, and if you hold it right at the edge of the screen, it pushes as hard as it can.

The goal is the flag at the very top of the level. You lose if you fall below the bottom of the screen or touch an enemy. The one exception is landing on an enemy from above: that squashes it and you bounce away. Leave the screen on one side and you come back on the other.

Steer gently, not wildly

The most common mistake is dragging your finger back and forth all the time. Your hero is already moving sideways, so big swings make you overshoot the platform. Move your finger a little, then let the hero drift.

Think of it like steering a bike. Small corrections keep you in control. A long slide is only for crossing a big gap, and afterward you should bring your finger back toward the middle.

Read the next platform before you land

While your hero is rising, look up. Pick the platform you want next, then slide toward it before the hero starts to fall. At the top of a bounce, you have a moment to adjust, and that is the best time to aim.

Do not always aim for the closest platform. Sometimes a platform a bit further up lets you skip a bounce. Just make sure you can really reach it: if it is too far, take the safe one and try again from there.

Springs, moving and fragile platforms

A spring gives you a very high bounce. It is great for crossing a big gap or skipping several platforms, so use it whenever you can. Plan the landing too: you will arrive high up, so spot the next platform before you fly.

Moving platforms go back and forth. Do not chase them. Watch them move once, then land where they will be, not where they are. Fragile platforms give you only one bounce and then they fall. Never plan two jumps on the same one.

Squash enemies, grab the stars

Enemies are not only a danger. If you fall onto one from above, it is squashed and you bounce. Aim your fall so the hero lands right on top of it and not beside it. Touching it any other way ends the try.

Every level hides three stars on the way up, and you earn 1 to 3 stars at the end depending on how many you collected. Finishing always gives at least one. Learn the route by just reaching the flag, then replay to collect the ones you missed. If you are stuck, a bubble costs 20 coins and saves you once: it throws the hero very high again after a fall or a hit. You can buy it before the start or on the lost screen.

Stay calm when levels get harder

The first three levels are short and the platforms are wide, so they teach you the controls. From level 4, enemies appear, the climb gets taller, and the platforms get smaller and further apart. This is where most players lose a few times, and that is normal.

After a fall, do not rush. Ask yourself what went wrong: too much steering, a fragile platform, or an enemy you could have squashed. Restart with one idea to fix. Every level can be finished with all three stars, so there is always a way.

Try our jumping games

Piou Boing lets you guide a round chick from cloud to cloud, with mushroom springs, moving clouds, clouds that break and crows to squash. In Cosmo Frog, a frog astronaut bounces on Moon rocks while purple stardust fog rises from below, so waiting is never a good idea.
